As an anesthesiologist and pain doctor, running marathons has always seemed a little silly. No lives are on the line if I don’t make it to the finish line. And yet as we sit here on the bus waiting to drive the 26.2 mile to the start line the anxiety is palpable.

The mix of emotions- excitement, anxiety, joy, dread- is contagious. Taking on a challenge -whether you’re running your first marathon or going for a personal (or worlds) best - requires believing in yourself, trusting yourself (and the process) and learning to be ok with whatever the day holds.

It’s so much more than just running 26.2 miles. It’s about trust, growth, resilience.

The hard work is done. 4am mornings, 50 mile weeks, long runs and tempo efforts. Now it’s time to rest up, stay healthy and trust in the training.

My goal for St. George is aggressive but isn’t that the point? Shouldn’t your goals scare you a little?

Despite an excellent training cycle I can feel the nerves kick up when I think about the pace goal I’m shooting for. But I also know I’m ready.

What goals do you have in mind?

🏃‍♀️ Backstory: I tripped and fell training for the Speedgoat 50k, tearing a ligament in my thumb. I was able to get back to modified training while in the post-op splint and cast, but it was less than ideal for summer training in FL.

Happy Global Running Day 🏃‍♀️ I’ve be Happy Global Running Day 🏃‍♀️

I’ve been fortunate to have a running blade since I was in my teens. And while I still struggle to get the perfect fit, I couldn’t imagine life without running.

Right now I’m shifting from road work to trails in preparation for the Speedgoat 50. For most that means switching out their shoes. For me it means, a new foot, tread and alignment!

And while it might not be dialed in just yet, we’re getting there. And I won’t give up on it. Because running has given me too much - my physical health, mental health and a community for life.

And lucky for me, it just keeps giving.

Stay tuned for more season updates and lifestyle hacks to run further, faster, longer.

They say we slow down with age, but my experience says we get WISER about recovery, nutrition, and mindset. 💪🧠

I broke down exactly how I achieved this in my latest blog post (link in bio) - covering everything from biological age optimization to breathwork techniques that transformed my running.

Age is just a number when you know how to work WITH your body, not against it.
