Grandma’s Marathon 3:11:31 🏅 The last few Grandma’s Marathon
3:11:31 🏅

The last few weeks have had me refocusing on what’s important. And while running has been one of the most foundational constants in my life (I’ve been running competitively since I was 15), I’ve come to realize that one of the best things about running has been the incredible connections it’s allowed me to experience.

From running besties who will meet you at ungodly hours to squeeze in a run to run club mates who will suffer miles with you in workouts that aren’t even theirs to total strangers you meet on race weekend who suddenly become a meaningful part of your life experience.

So yeah, race weekends are fun! And I’m super grateful for another strong performance on a great course, but I’d say the best part about it is connecting with like minded, supportive individuals who make me want to show up as the best version of myself.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. For pushing me, for believing in me, for showing up for me. I couldn’t have done it without you and I am grateful.

💛 It may have been my third time at Boston, but it felt like my first time all over again. Down to the rookie mistake of going out too fast.

💙 I road an emotional and physical roller coaster for 26.2 miles all the way from Hopkinton to Boylston that hit many highs and at least as many lows.

🦄 I teared up at least twice as I was engulfed by the crowds chanting “Go Kelly Go”. I felt the runners high and the glycogen depletion. I felt like I was flying one minute and then couldn’t imagine taking another step the next.

Thank you Boston for the wild ride, @allcareoandp for the running blade, and @running_4sanity for keeping me sane on all the long, hot training runs!

Be grateful. Not because you feel like you have to Be grateful. Not because you feel like you have to, but because you get to. Because you are blessed with gifts and talents and there are no guarantees. What you have today might not be yours tomorrow. Or it might look different, feel different, be different.

You have the opportunity to do the best you can do in this moment. Go do it!

We did it! Last long run for #bostonmarathontraini We did it! Last long run for #bostonmarathontraining. I can safely say that some runs are more physical and others are more mental. Today was a little of both. When the physical effort only becomes possible with a whole lot of mental grit. Thanks @running_4sanity for pulling me along to a sweaty finish. I’d have been lost out there without you. Like actually lost. Still looking for the car.

It felt good to race again. I’ll remember it as a nice day on a gravel course and forget the heat and humidity! It was one of those races where you go out and hold on as long as you can.

After 10 years of training in medicine and the las After 10 years of training in medicine and the last 3 years training for a 3 hour marathon, the most important thing I’ve learned is that recovery is non-negotiable. And it’s more than just getting good, quality sleep. True recovery encompasses physical, mental, and emotional elements. It requires prioritizing health, fueling, and nervous system downregulation while effectively managing stress capacity.
